Carpentry and Joinery: Shopfitting

Level 2 Green Lane Campus / Workplace Approximately 18 - 24 months

Shopfitting is one of the most recognised Construction disciplines. As a Shopfitter you will mainly be working in a workshop environment as well as possibly going out onto site to fit Joinery items.

You will need to be able to work well as part of a team, be reliable, honest and have a good work ethic. You must also be prepared to be flexible in your working arrangements and as you will work in many locations, willingness to travel is required.

The Carpentry and Joinery: Shopfitting Apprenticeship includes the following components:
• NVQ Level 2
• Technical Certificate Level 2
• Key Skills in Application of Number Level 1
• Key Skills in Communications Level 1
• Employer Rights and Responsibilities

As a Shopfitter Apprentice you will attend Walsall College one day and week and your workplace the remaining four days. The hours of employment will be agreed with your employer.

 

Entry Requirements

The selection process will include a basic Initial Assessment and an interview during which your suitability, commitment and interest for the programme will be determined. A Shopfitter will be required to work with large quantities of diverse materials and interpret and range of information sources including written specifications and technical drawings which will be assessed in part via the Initial Assessment and interview. To be accepted onto the programme you will need to achieve Literacy and Numeracy at a minimum of Level 1 and it is preferable that you have GCSE grades A - D in Maths and English or equivalent.The suitability of your employer will be determined before you are accepted onto the programme. Your employer will need to demonstrate that they have the necessary Health and Safety arrangements in place to satisfy legislative requirements, and that they are able to provide you with the full range of work to successfully complete the Apprenticeship framework. If you do not have an offer of employment we may be able to assist you, however this can
not be guaranteed as demand for Apprenticeship places are high.

Progression

The Building and Allied Trades Joint Council agree wage rates for Apprentices annually. A good basic wage is available whilst you are training and you may, after your initial training, be eligible to participate in the incentive scheme that many employers offer.

Level 3 qualifications

Courses leading to technical, supervisory or management roles within the construction industry.
